Ann Algar George


Ann Algar George, 79, of Avoca passed away on Monday, December 26, 16 at her home. She was born in Avoca, January 29th, 1937, and was the daughter of the late Ellsworth and Grace Walsh Algar.

Ann was a member of Queen of the Apostles, Parish Church, Avoca. She was a 1954 graduate of Avoca High School. She worked many years for GE Company, Scranton and retired from the local garment industry. Ann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, Ann is preceded in death by her husband, James George, who died June 18th, 2016; her daughter Ann Marie (George) O’Neill; her sister, Mary Grace Langan; and Ellsworth “Buddy” Algar.

She is survived by the pride of life, her granddaughter, Grace O’Neill; her sisters, Maudeen Ratchford and her husband, Patrick of Duryea, Debbie Radle and her husband, David of Avoca, and her brother, John “Jack” Algar and his wife, Helen of Pittston. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, December 29th at 10:00am at Queen of the Apostles Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday evening, December 28th from 5-8pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church on Thursday morning. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca.
