Walter George, 61, of Avoca, passed away on Monday, January 30th, at the Regional Hospital of Scranton. Born in Avoca on February 3rd, 1955, he was the son of Donald George and the late Marjorie (Odgers) George.
Walter was a graduate of Pittston Area High School and was the owner and operator of LaBarre Printing. Co, West Pittston. “Bub” was an avid animal lover and was blessed with a “green thumb” in gardening. He was an IndyCar and NASCAR race fan and enjoyed his multiple trips to the Indy 500 with his sister, her husband, and friends. He enjoyed watching old westerns and classic movies, listening to music, and rooting for his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Steelers with his Dad.
In addition to his father, Donald, Walter is survived by his sisters, Donna and husband, Jeff Gavlick of Robbinsville NJ; Katherine and husband, Michael Voetelink of Spring City, PA; and Kristin and husband, William Jirak of Aston, PA; and his brother, Donald M George Jr. and his wife, Dana of Hamilton, NJ. “Uncle Bubby” is also survived by five nieces, three nephews and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call on Saturday, February 11th from 1-4 pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. A memorial service will be held immediately following at 4 pm.
