Mary M. Chilson


Mary M. Chilson, 90, of Duryea passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12th, 2017 at the Willowbrook Place, Clarks Summit, where she was a resident for the past year. She was born in Dupont, May 30th, 1926 and was the daughter of the late Martin and Anna (Lukasik) Hanczyc.

Mary was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish (Sacred Heart of Jesus Church), Duryea and a former member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Woman’s Auxiliary. She was a graduate of Dupont High School. Mary worked many years in the garment industry both locally and in the state of New Jersey. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Stanley Chilson, as well as her brother, William Hanczyc and sister, Pauline Paoli.

She is survived by her son, Mark and his wife, Cheryl Chilson of Pittston Twp., and her grandsons, Zachary and Aleksander Chilson, whom she adored. Also surviving are brothers, Theodore of Bethlehem; Martin of Duryea; and Thomas of Delaware; her sister, Elizabeth Lizak of Dupont and several nieces and nephews.

Mary’s family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Leo of Advanced Home Health Care Specialists of Dunmore and Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their kindness, care, and compassion. Also the administration and staff of Willowbrook Place for their dedication, compassion, and individual attention to their patients.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, May 17th at 9:30am at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea with Fr. John Polednak and Msgn. John Sempa officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday morning, May 17th from 9:00am until time of Mass. Interment will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
