Edward C. Massakowski


Edward C. Massakowski, 87, of Avoca, PA passed away Friday, January 5th at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. Edward was born in Dupont, PA on February 12, 1930 and was the son of the late Lucia and Boleslaw Massakowski.

Ed was a graduate of Dupont High School. He also attended the quartermaster school in Lenggries, Germany, specializing in Personal Management. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the US Army during the occupation of Austria. He was employed by the US Postal Service. His last working assignment was Branch Manager of the Avoca Post Office, retiring in 1996.

Ed was a former member of St. Peter and Paul Parish in Avoca and a member of Queen of the Apostles Church Avoca, PA. He was past commander of the V.F.W. Post 8335, Avoca, PA and also served 25 years as a Post Director. He performed the duties of Adjutant for a number of years as well.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Josephine (Bartush) Massakowski; his son, Andrew, who passed away in 2010; brother,John; sisters, Mary Montero, Anna Gawrys, Frances Capowski, Cassie Clarke Irene Zuba, Lottie Makar, and Henrietta Whitaker; his niece Patricia Jones; and his companion, Grace Preslock, who died October 19, 2017.

Edward is survived by three children, Eleanor Doban and husband John, West Wyoming; Dr. Edward A. Massakowski, of Bensalem, PA; and Caroline O’Donnell and her husband Steven, of Lancaster. Also surviving are five grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and friend Lola Chocana.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 11th at 9:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Queen of the Apostles Church, Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday evening, January 10th from 5 PM to 8 PM.

Military honors will be provided by AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston. Interment will be held at Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery, Elmhurst, PA.

In lieu of flowers donor may select memorial contribution.
