Sylvia Sklanka, 84, of Moosic, died on Sunday, April 15th at her home. She was born in Moosic, March 16, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Stanley and Celia (Kania) Sklanka. She was the eldest of nine children.
She was a former employee of Capital Records and Anemostat of Scranton. She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Czestochowa Church in Greenwood until the time of its closing. Sylvia was a devoted sister. Although she never had children, she had many wonderful nieces and nephews, and their families, who were dear to her heart. She was proud of them all.
Before her illness, she loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hiking and picking blueberries and mushrooms. She was a sports fanatic and loved the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers, John, Bernard, Joseph, and Stanley.
She is survived by two sisters, Sandra Chisdock and Arlene Markiewicz; two brothers, Paul Sklanka and wife Dorothy and Dominick Sklanka and wife Paulette, all residing in Moosic. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, April 23rd at 11:00am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Monday morning at the church from 9:30am until time of mass. Interment will take place at a later date.
