Mary Jane Jalowiec


Mary Jane Jalowiec, 81, of Avoca, passed away on Sunday, June 24th at the Riverside Rehab and Nursing Center, Taylor. The only child of Andrew and Victoria (Ostrowski) Kupcho, she was born in Avoca on September 6th, 1936.

Mary Jane was a 1953 graduate of Avoca High School and a 1964 graduate of Scranton Lackawanna Business School. She was an office employee of Pittston Apparel for ten years, until her marriage in 1963 to John Jalowiec, who passed away August 8th, 1998. After raising her children, she was employed as a secretary at Penn State Labs, 8th Ave. Dental in Scranton for 25 ½ years.

She is survived by her two daughters, Judy Khanuja and her husband Rindi of Philidalphia, and Sandra Jalowiec of Avoca, a son Dr. Michael Jalowiec, four grandchildren Jenna Jalowiec, Alex Khanuja, Andrew Jalowiec and Juliana Khanuja, and numerous cousins. Also surviving among her many cousins are three “very special” people, Mary Ann Dudzick, her “adopted” sister; and Paul and Peggy Dudzick, her ‘adopted” brother and sister-in-law. Without them she could not go on! They were her saviors.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, June 30th at 10:00am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca. Friends may call on Saturday morning from 9:00am until time of mass. Interment services will be privately held at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca.

Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
