Peter Tanski, Jr., 69, of Pittston, died on Monday, August 27 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Peter was born in Scranton, February 17th, 1949 and was the son of the late Peter and Eleanor (Corcoran) Tanski.
Pete was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. He was a 1967 graduate of Scranton Tech High School. After high school, Peter joined the US Army and served in Korea during the Vietnam War. He retired from Local 524 Pipefitters Union. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and he will deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Wayne Tanski and his sister, Beverly Vohar.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Luvender) Tanski; his children, Lisa Strelecki of Scranton, Peter Thomas Tanski of Pittston, Amanda Sobeski and her husband Joseph of Pittston Twp., Samantha Tanski of Exeter, Gavin Tanski of Pittston and Wayne Tanski of Pittston Twp.; his brother Edward “Turk” Tanski of Moosic; and sisters, Eleanor Cosmark of Taylor, Ann Thiel of Scranton and Helen Svetlovics of Scranton. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, a great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, August 31st at 11:30am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Friday morning, August 31st from 10:30am until time of service. Interment will be held at the Italian American Cemetery, Scranton. AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will provide military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the VA Medical Center, 1111 E. End Blvd., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711.
