Arnold J. Dommes, Sr.

Arnold J. Dommes, Sr., 81, a lifelong resident of Duryea passed away on March 12, 2021. Born in Duryea he was the son of the late Louis Dommes and Lois (Burnside) Rehoski.

Arnold was a graduate of Duryea High School. He served for many years with the United States Army National Guard. Arnold retired as a Captain of the Duryea Police Department after several years of employment. After his retirement, he was employed as a security guard for Schott Optical, Duryea. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepfather Edward Rehoski and brothers Louis and Alan Dommes.


Arnold is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathleen “Kitty” O’Malley Dommes and his children Arnold Dommes, Jr. and wife Pam of, Scranton, James and wife Christine, of Glen Lyon, Steven and his wife Priscilla, of Avoca, and Jennifer Novack and her husband Bob, of Old Forge. Also surviving are his nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his siblings: Barry and wife Charlotte Dommes, of Hallstead, Edward Rehoski and his wife Betty, of Duryea, Robert Dommes, of Scranton and Luanne Stevens, of Taylor and several nieces and nephews.


Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at 7:00pm with Rev. Dennis Gray officiating at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 5pm until time of services. Interment will be held on Wednesday morning, April 7th at 10:30am at St. John’s cemetery, Duryea with the AMVETS honor Guard of Greater Pittston providing military honors. If attending the visitation or services, please be mindful that masks and safe social distancing are always mandatory.
