Barbara J. Karsko Shinert, 84, of Glendale, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at the Scranton Health Care Center, Scranton. She was born in Moosic on June 7th, 1939, and was the daughter of the late George and Josephine Mitchell Karsko.
Barbara was a member of SS Peter and Paul Church, Avoca. She attended Moosic High School. She then worked for Brooks Manufacturing in Old Forge and retired in 2001 from Topps Chewing Gum, after several years of employment.
Barbara enjoyed working in her yard, tending to her vegetable garden, and her flowers. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her friends, she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Charles “Bud” Shinert, her daughter Leslie Shinert, and her brothers, George, John, and James Karsko.
She is survived by her children, Charles Shinert, of Glendale, Laurie Blasi and her husband Chris, of Honesdale, and Karen Katchmar and her husband Chris, of Old Forge. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Alexandra Shinert, Meghan Shinert, Nichole Blasi, Michael Blasi, Amanda Katchmar, and Ashley Katchmar; her sister Irene Pierce, of Allentown; and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Scranton Health Care Center, Hospice of the Sacred Heart, and Dr. Wayne Weston for their excellent care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 100 William St., Dunmore, PA 18510.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 10am at Queen of Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Saturday morning at the church from 9am until time of service. Interment will be held at the Springbrook Cemetery, Springbrook.
