Carol McCarthy

Carol McCarthy passed away peacefully on her 90th birthday December 13, 2021, surrounded by family. Remarkably and beautifully, she passed away in the same home within which she was born on December 13, 1931. She was born in Avoca and was the daughter of the late Raynor L. West, Sr. and Regina Dommermuth West and was the wife of the late John “Jack” McCarthy, who passed away on April 18, 1973.

She was a graduate of Avoca High School. She was the assistant manager at McCrory’s Department store, Pittston for many years and retired as a dietary clerk for Wesley Village Nursing facility, Pittston.

Carol enjoyed gardening, caring for her yard, and was always inspired while attending the well-known Philadelphia Flower Show. Family was the heart of Carol's life. She will be remembered for her devotion to her family, family game nights and parties, and for her steady, constant presence in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Upon her departure from this life, Carol left behind a beautiful array of memories, which

will be carried forth in the stories her family will weave into the tapestry of their own lives. She will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband John “Jack” McCarthy, her brother Raynor West, and her son-in-law Thomas Murman.

Carol is survived by her daughters Janet Joyce and husband William, Avoca and Nancy Murman, of Avoca; grandchildren Kate Zielinski and husband Chris, Faye Dorsey and husband James, Kelly Murman and husband Kevin Kosisky, Bill Joyce and his companion Sarah Ruane, and Jack Joyce and his companion Alicia Stavitzski; great-grandchildren Ben and Nathan Zielinski and Audrey Dorsey; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Miles for Michael, 9 North Main St., Pittston, PA 18640.
