Cathy Ann Ryzner, 59, of Duryea, passed away peacefully on December 2, 2022, at Allied Inpatient Hospice Center, Scranton after a courageous 10-month battle with cancer.
Cathy was born on March 5, 1963, to the late Edward and Jule Bellas Ryzner.
She was a graduate of Pittston Area High School Class of 1981.
Cathy spent many of her younger years in addiction, claiming her sobriety 15 years ago. She became a Certified Recovery Specialist and was employed at Miners Medical, a Pinnacle Treatment Center Network. Because of her personal knowledge of the disease, she excelled at treating others so they too, could reach the same goal of sobriety. She was well known and respected in her field.
Cathy also had a green thumb. She could make any indoor and outdoor plant thrive. She was fond of sunflowers and could grow them to be six feet tall in her garden. She was also a classic rock and roll enthusiast, knowing every band and its members; she knew every word to every song.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Joseph Ryzner, brother-in-law Richard Kachinsky, and nephew Richie Kachinsky.
She is survived by her son, Jeremy Ryzner, sister Patricia Kachinsky, best friend and caregiver, Rose Yonushka, nieces Chrissy Yucas and Brianna Zavislak, and sister-in-law Maryanne Ryzner. Also surviving are two grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, cousins, and close friends, Mary Butera, Peter Uritz and Erin Adams.
The family would like to thank the staff at Compassionate Care Hospice, Dr. Guy Fasciana, and the staff at Allied Inpatient Hospice for their competent and compassionate care given to Cathy. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 1444 East Lackawanna Ave., Olyphant, PA 18447 or to the donor’s choice in memory of Cathy.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday afternoon, December 10th at 1:30pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Fr. Michael Bryant of Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Duryea officiating. Friends may call for visitation from 12pm until time of service.
