Diane Marie (Talipan) McDermott, 64, of Avoca, passed away unexpectedly on July 5th, 2024, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.  She was born in Pittston on December 2nd, 1959 and was the daughter of the late Joseph “Doc” Talipan and Marie (Lettieri) Talipan.

Diane was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, class of 1977. She then attended Luzerne County Community College.  Diane worked in the food service industry for her entire life and loved to serve her customers. She was employed by many local eateries.

If you knew Diane, then you knew love. She lived for her family above all else. Her heart belonged to her high school sweetheart, Jimmy. The care she provided him was like no other. She loved nothing more than staying in with her family and just enjoying everyone being together. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. Diane also loved the title of dog and plant mom, treating them just like they were a part of her family. Her love for cooking and baking fed many families and friends. Diane led a selfless life and anyone who was lucky enough to know her is truly blessed.

Diane is survived by her husband of 43 years, James McDermott, her children; Melissa McDermott and her fiancé Kevin Blacketter, of Scranton, Jessica McDermott, of Avoca, and James McDermott, Jr. and his husband John Lyons, Avoca.  Also surviving is her brother Joseph Talipan, of Avoca, her grandchildren; Colton, Erin, and Declan, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers, and sisters-in-laws.

Memorial services for Diane will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 4:30pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Fr. Joseph Elston of St. John The Evangelist Church, Pittston officiating.  Friends may call for visitation from 4:30pm until 7:30pm.

Very sorry about Diane's passing. We knew her from my sister's kitchen and my mom made her grandson a quilt that they loved to talk about how they were doing each time we saw her..

She will be severely missed...

So sorry for your loss. I have wonderful memories of Diane from my early childhood on Pine Strret. She was one of the kindest and most beautiful people I've ever known. Some years ago, my wife and children got to know her very well and would say how much we all love her. God Bless You All,

Sam and Nicole Marranca and family.
