Donald Gratalo, 80, of Hughestown, passed away on April 14, 2024 at his home. He was born in Hughestown on November 22, 1943, and was the son of the late Matthew and Mary Austrus Gratalo.
Donald was a graduate of Hughestown High School, class of 1961. He was drafted into the US Army in 1970, having served stateside during the Vietnam War. Donald worked for Owens Illinois as a master mechanic; while employed he attended Penn State Vocational college. He retired in 1994 with over 30 years of employment.
Donald was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and his friend at his cottage along the Susquehanna River in Tunkhannock. He was also a fan of Penn State Football. Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his brothers, infants Charles and Joseph, and Dominick, Thomas, and John Gratalo.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan Homschek Gratalo, his children, Linda Soy and her husband John, of Avoca, Scott Gratalo, of Scranton, Gino Gratalo, of Avoca, Dawn Zuba and her husband Michael, of Connecticut, and Kris Gratalo, of Hughestown. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Matthew Soy, Aiden and Adelaide Zuba, his sister Elizabeth Jones and her husband Robert of Dupont and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at 12:00pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Pastor Dennis Gray officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Friday morning April 19th from 10am until time of his service. Interment to follow at Memorial Shrine Cemetery 8th St. Carverton.
