Dorothy (Dottie) Rutkowski of Duryea, born July 18, 1940 to the late Stanley and Julia Guzik of Avoca, died peacefully and fearlessly at home with her family by her side.
Dottie was employed in the garment industry for most of her working life. She became a master at her craft. She was the only one who could turn a pig’s ear into a silk purse.
She loved her quiet time in the garden, grounded with the earth. This is where all of life’s answers came to her.
She would often try her luck at the casino and enjoyed small wins however she knew that’s not where true wealth lies.
An avid reader and logic puzzle lover, her high intelligence always gave her the edge whether it was during a game of Scrabble or discussing politics over a cup of coffee.
Her family was her life.
She is survived by her four children; Susan Lazevnick and partner William Riggi of Duryea, Sandra Francis of Duryea, Dorothy Rowlands and husband John of Duryea, and Joseph Rutkowski and wife Marci of Jenkins Twp. grandchildren; Jack Francis, Dale Klush, Jillian Matyjevich, Susan Sarin, Lindsay McFarland, Kasey Rutkowski, Joey Rutkowski, John Rowlands, Wendy Shuback, Mark Naples, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by brothers John and Stanley Guzik and sisters Shirley Hapersberger and Mary Mccloskey. Dottie leaves behind a large extended family of husbands, wives, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dottie’s sisters, Eileen, Judy, Phyllis, Sally, and Theresa for their love and support, and Dr. Fasciana and Compassionate Care Hospice for their kindness and comfort they provided.
She will be greatly missed by us all.
