Ernest J. Cavalari, Jr., 77, of Avoca, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Regional Hospital in Scranton.  Born in Avoca on May 31, 1947, he was the son of the late Ernest J. Cavalari Sr. and Frances I. (Soy) Cavalari.


Ernie was a member of Queen of The Apostles Parish in Avoca.  He graduated from Northeast High School in 1965 and went on to attend Johnson Technical College in Scranton.  He worked for many years as a police officer in the borough of Avoca and also with the Bridon America Company.  He later retired from the PA Turnpike Commission after many years of employment. 


A talented athlete in his youth, Ernie excelled as a football and baseball player.  Later in life he developed a passion for golf and became an avid player, winning several local and regional tournaments.  He was a proud member of the Avoca Jolly Boys and the Avoca Boys Breakfast Club.  Ernie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his infant brother, Martin Cavalari, and sisters, Lois Kobeski and Nancy Grella.


Ernest is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Mary C. (Cicon) Cavalari; his son Kevin Cavalari and his companion Sue Quiller of Troop; daughter Wendy Marie Cavalari of Pheonix, AZ; and his grandson Nico Cavalari.  Also surviving are his brother Raymond Cavalari, of New Jersey, sister Janet Felice, of Old Forge, brother and sister in-law Carl and Cathy Wisnesky. and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and many other extended family members.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge, 974 Lockville Rd., Dallas, PA 18612.


A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, April 1st at 10:00am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating.  Friends may call on Monday evening, March 31 from 5pm-7-pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.  Friends and family are asked to go directly to the church, the morning of the funeral, there will be no procession from the funeral home.

Had known Ernie for many, many years. Played golf with him at Emanon. He was a great guy who always had a smile. He will be missed. My condolences to Mary and his family.
