Ethel Kerechuk

Ethel Kerechuk, 92, of Avoca, passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Allied Services Skilled Nursing Center, Scranton. Born in Avoca, July 21, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Veronica (Mihalik) Gregorski.

Ethel was a member of Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca and was a former member of SS Peter and Paul Church, Avoca. She was a graduate of Avoca High School. Ethel was employed for 10 years for Laura Fashions, Avoca and retired from Topps Chewing Gum with 35 years of employment.


Ethel loved to cook and made sure her family all came for her large Sunday dinners. She also loved to watch and listen to the polkas. All of her family and friends would gather at her home for every holiday. She loved to go shopping, and enjoyed her Friday nights going out to eat with her daughter Phyllis.


Her late son, Teddy, was her best caretaker; he enjoyed taking his mom for long rides on weekends and enjoyed his time spent with her going out for breakfast and shopping. Ethel will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her, husband Theodore “Feathers” Kerechuk, Sr.; her daughter Barbara Ellis; son Theodore “Teddy” Kerechuk, Jr., who died December 26, 2020; grandsons; Donny Buganesi and Edward Ellis, Jr.; her

son-in-law Donny Buganesi, Sr.; brothers Anthony, Marty, Mike and Edward Gregorski; and her sisters; Helen Gregorski, Anna Boc, Loretta Demich, Blanch Podlaski, Veronica Yablonski, and Cecelia Gregorski.


Ethel is survived by her daughters Phyllis Buganesi, of Scranton and Denise Kasa, of Avoca; her granddaughters, Carissa Kasa and Lovena Renda and her husband Mark; son-in-law, Edward Ellis, Sr., and Joseph Kasa; and several nieces and nephews.


The family would like to thank Dr. Martin Moran for all the great care he has given to our mom so that we were able to have her all these years. Also, a thank you to Allied Skilled Nursing, the staff, hospice, nurses, and the doctors for all the love and care, and comfort you have given our family. Also, thank you to Regional Hospital of Scranton.


A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 11:00am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call for a walk thru viewing on Tuesday morning from 9:30am until time of mass. If attending the viewing or mass, please be mindful that facial masks and safe social distancing are mandatory at all times per CDC regulations. Interment will be held at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.
