Eugene P. George, 83, of Avoca, passed away on April 16, 2025, at the Highland Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Exeter.  He was born in Avoca on July 2, 1941, the son of the late Robert and Theresa (Pernot) George.

Gene was a devoted member of Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. He graduated from Avoca High School, class of 1959.  Following high school, he proudly served in the U.S. Air Force.  After his service, he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Scranton.  Gene worked as a licensed public accountant for Carter Footwear, Wilkes-Barre and retired after 20 years with Diamond Manufacturing in Wyoming.  He also provided tax preparation services independently for many clients.

Gene cherished time with his beloved wife of 55 years Barbara Scaz George, their sons, and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed family vacations to Ocean City, NJ, Atlantic City, NJ, and Saratoga Springs, NY.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his sisters, Patricia Grogan and Sally Atwell, and his brother, Robert J. “Bob” George.

He is survived by his loving wife, Barbara, and his sons: Eugene George II and his fiancée Gail Doran, of Duryea, and Jeffrey George and his wife Trisha, of Randolph, NJ.  Gene was a proud grandfather to Matthew and Aiden George, Olivia and Andrew George and Alyvia Doran.  He is also survived by his twin brother, Paul George, of Clarks-Summit, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ken and Linda Scaz, Jacksonville FL,  and brother-in-law, Donald Atwell, Hagerstown, Maryland and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Highland Manor and Compassionate Care Hospice.  The compassion and love you have given to him is so greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11:00am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating.  Friends may call for visitation on Friday evening, April 25, 2025, at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea from 5:00pm-7:00pm.  Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church on Saturday morning; there will be no procession from the funeral home.
