Gregg Culp

Gregg Culp, 64, of Avoca passed away on Tuesday, July 2nd at his home. Born in Hazelton on May 30, 1960, Gregg was the son of the late Clarence and Angeline (Obert) Culp.


Gregg was a member of the Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. He was a graduate of Hazleton Sr. High School, class of 1979, where he was a proud member of the Hazleton Senior High School Band. He received his BA from Wilkes University and a master’s in social work from Marywood University. After 35 years, Gregg retired in 2015 from the Clarks Summit State Hospital as a licensed social worker.


Gregg enjoyed the outdoors, which included hunting, fishing, as well as being a marathon runner. In addition, he enjoyed skiing for many years and was a member of the National Ski Patrol. Gregg was an animal-loving Gettysburg enthusiast and after retirement enjoyed being a volunteer for the SPCA of Luzerne County. Gregg will be deeply missed by all who knew him.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Keith Culp.


Gregg is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jennifer McAloose Culp, his brother David N. Culp and his wife Ann Culp, of Dupont, and maternal aunt Josephine Obert of Hazelton. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA Of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main St. Wilkes Barre, PA 18702.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 12th, 2024, at 10:00 am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, PA with Fr. Phillip J. Sladicka officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Friday morning from 9 am until the time of the Mass. Interment will be held St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca.

So very sorry to hear of Gregg's passing. I am his cousin from Hazleton. My Grandmother was Francis Biacco & she was a cousin to Gregg's mom Angie. We also knew all of Angie's sisters well, we all went to Our Lady of Grace together. Prayers to you and you family. Cindy (Bellinghausen) Vetter
