Helen M. (Krutis) Chernesky, 100, of Avoca, passed away on March 31st, 2025, at Wesley Village Nursing Home, Pittston. Born in Old Forge on February 18, 1925, Helen was the daughter of the late Victor and Victoria (Zuczek) Krutis.

She was a devoted member of SS Peter and Paul Church in Avoca until its closing and was a proud graduate of Nanticoke High School. A talented seamstress,Helen dedicated many years to the local garment industry before retiring.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 50 years, Chester T. Chernesky who passed on July 14, 2006; her brothers, Walter and Joseph Krutis; and her sister, Camille Kmiec.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Rita Chernesky of Avoca and Patricia Chernesky of Jefferson Twp. She is also surviving by her godson Walter Kmiec, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Friday April 5th, 2025, at Corpus Christi Parish Church, West Pittston, officiated by Monsignor John Sempa. Interment followed at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca.
Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services inc. 255 McAlpine St. Duryea.
