James D. Brooks, 78, of Dupont, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2022, after a brief illness at The Allied Hospice Center, Scranton. Born in Scranton, September 4, 1943, he was the son of the late Anna (Dranchak) Brooks and the late James Brooks.
He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, a graduate of West Scranton High School, and later served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. James received the Expert Marksmanship Badge and a Combat Infantry Badge.
James retired after many years with the Wilkes-Barre branch of Modern Group.
James was an avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener and eagerly shared the bounty from his garden with family and friends.
His loving wife, Patricia (Lello) Brooks, passed away in 2007.
James is survived by his sister, Sharon and her husband Joseph Honcharik of Ellicott City, Maryland; sister-in-law Sylvia and her husband Andre Holley of Pittston; niece Andrea Disanferdinand, and nephew Christopher Honcharik.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 20, 2022, at 9:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont. Fr. Thomas Petro will officiate the mass. Friends may call on Thursday evening, May 19, from 5-7pm. Interment will be held at St. John’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Minooka. The AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will provide military honors.
