James Sheerer, 72, of Avoca died April 9, 2025, at his home surrounded by all his loved ones.

Jim was born May 17, 1952 the son of the late James Sheerer and Mary Ryder Sheerer of Avoca. Preceding him in death was his daughter, Kelly. He was a graduate of Pittston Area High School.

Surviving is his wife, Linda Sheerer, daughters Kara and husband Danny Saporito, Laine and husband Bryan Martin, and his beloved grandchildren Daniel and Pia Saporito and Brycen and Brody Martin.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a great friend, always ready to drop whatever he was doing, to help others. Jim was truly a man that put the need of others before his own. He took great pride in his grandchildren’s achievements in the classroom and in sports.

Always a hardworking family man, he retired from Pennsylvania Power and Light in 2013, where he had worked in management, as a Construction Foreman. In retirement he was fortunate to make several trips to Europe, while also enjoying many cruises with his dearest friends. He enjoyed family vacations to his favorite vacation destination, Cape May, New Jersey.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.

Linda and family, my heart aches for the loss of Jimmy. He was one of the kindest souls that I had the pleasure of meeting . He brought fun and laughter in all situations and had the sweetest most genuine heart . I can not even begin to know the loss you feel, but know that the lives he touched are all better because of him in it. May he rest in peace and may his memories and love of life carry you through these most difficult times ahead. 🙏🏼
