Janet “The General” McNally

Janet “The General” McNally,75, passed away on Saturday, January 13th at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton. Janet was the daughter of the late John and Loretta Kozlowski McCormick, Secaucus, NJ. Janet was the wife of Patrick McNally, Sr. of Taylor for 57 years. 


Janet earned her nickname, “the General”, while working for Wyoming Sand & Stone Company. Janet’s hardworking personality and no-nonsense attitude carried over into home improvement renovations, landscaping, and other projects that she would complete with meticulous detail. Janet was a waitress and the bookkeeper at her daughter’s diners, Margie’s, and the West Side Diner. She also worked at St. George’s Social club and the Glider Diner. 


Although The General was serious and always busy, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She would, spend her summer days by the pool enjoying the company of little laughter’s and watch with joy as they explored the wonders of her backyard. 


Janet is survived by her son, Patrick McNally, Jr. and wife Lori, Taylor; her granddaughter, Kristine and husband, Earl Paone of Taylor; granddaughter Ashlyn McNally of Taylor; grandsons Connor and Ryan McNally of Taylor; and her great granddaughter Liliana of Taylor. Also surviving are sister Barbara Menichello, Binghamton; brothers Philip Melia and wife Cindy of Nicholson; Frank Melia, Nicholson; Dennis Melia of Dunmore, and several nieces and nephews.


Janet was preceded in death by her daughters Lisa and Patricia McNally, her brothers, Thomas McCormick, twins, Gerald and Richard Melia, and her aunt, Maryann Gotsch. 


Janet’s family would like to offer their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Mountain View Care Center’s Dementia Unit for the compassion and support. 


Funeral services will be private. Arrangements have been made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
