Janice Bekanich Collins, 73, of Larksville, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. She was born in Avoca, September 11, 1950, and was the daughter of the late Peter and Ann Helene (Jenkins) Bekanich.
Janice was a member of the Langcliffe Presbyterian Church, Avoca. She was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, first graduating class of 1968. Janice then attended Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
In her earlier years, she was employed by the A &P grocery store, Avoca. She worked as a secretary for several years at the of offices of Dr. Lewis Druffner, Dr. Martin Moran, and Dr. John Callahan after retirement, she sought employment at Gerrity’s Supermarket, West Pittston.
For many years, Janice was an active member of the woman’s Eastern Star, West Pittston. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter Renee Clara Collins Smith, who passed away December 31, 2016.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, David Collins, her grandchildren, Addison, Adam and Alex Smith, her brothers and sisters, Ann Diaz and her husband Sam, of Avoca, Isabell Schraeder and her husband Richard, of Taylor, Ellen Wagner and her husband Kenneth, of Moosic, William Bekanich and his wife Christine, of Mifflinburg, and Stephen Bekanich and his wife Charlene, of Plymouth. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 11th, 2024, at 9:30am at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Rev. Bruce Jordon of the Langcliffe Presbyterian Church, officiating. Friends may call on Friday evening, May 10th from 6pm-8pm. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery, Avoca.
