Joan Clifford McAndrew, 93, of Avoca, passed away on Tuesday, March 19th, 2024, at Wesley Village Nursing and Rehab Center, Pittston. She was born in Avoca on August 29, 1930, and was the daughter of the late Michael and Bridget Cavanaugh Clifford.
Joan was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. She was a graduate of Avoca High School, class of 1948. Joan was a proud member of the Avoca Jolly Girls, The Clifford Club, and the West Side Social Club. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother known as “Grandma The Great,” sister, and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Raymond F. “Chick” McAndrew, who died June 11, 2019; her sisters: Mildred George, Marie McAndrew, Peg Allardyce, and Betty Timlin; and her brothers: Earl, Joseph, Michael, Jack, William, and Alfred “Al” Clifford.
Joan is survived by her children: Patrick and his wife Teresa, of Avoca; Eileen Krzak and her husband Raymond, of Avoca; Ann Culp and her husband David, of Dupont; Thomas and his wife Jackie, of Avoca; Robert and his wife Colleen, of Scranton; Kevin and his wife Lori, of Avoca; “and Kay Shamnoski and her husband Stephen, of Avoca. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 23rd at 10 am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Rev. Phillip J. Sladicka officiating. Friends may call at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea for viewing on Friday, March 22nd from 4 pm-7 pm. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church on Saturday for the mass as there will be no procession from the funeral home. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca.
