John Francis “Uncle Jacko” McGlynn

John Francis “Uncle Jacko” McGlynn, 80, of Avoca, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2024.  He was born in Suscon on June 8th, 1943, and was the son of the late James and Margaret (Ratchford) McGlynn.

Jacko was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Avoca.  He was a graduate of Avoca High School, class of 1962.  For many years, he traveled throughout the United States constructing tennis courts.

Anyone who knew Jacko had a Jacko story.  He loved his family immensely and would always be excited to be in their presence.  His stories of the past always kept you on the edge of your seat from laughing.  Uncle Jacko enjoyed the outdoors, he loved to hunt and fish with his nephews and enjoyed taking rides with his best friend, Michael “Ryle” Farrell.  Jacko also had a very special bond with his grea- great-nephew Joey O’Brien.

Uncle Jacko loved listening to music from the past, watching westerns, and sipping (HAHA) on a cold beer.  He was a good Irish soul who knew how to have a fabulous time.  “Johhny” as his mother called him was a man of faith, “Jacko lived his life the way Jacko wanted to live his life”.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers; infant Patrick, Michael, Joseph Patrick, and James “Jinksy” McGlynn and sisters, infant Ann,  Anne McGlynn and Katherine Ann Martin, his sisters-in-law, Margaret “Tootsie” McGlynn and Kathleen McGlynn, and his brothers-in-law, Thomas Patrick Lavelle, James Martin, Gene Linskey and Jack O’Brien.

He is survived by his sisters, Margaret Linskey, of NJ, Agnes Lavelle, of Moosic, and Marie O’Brien, of Wilkes Barre and his brother Dennis, of Avoca.  Also surviving are his numerous nieces and nephews - “too many to count”.

Special thank you to his caretakers, nephew Christopher and his companion Janelle and Dennis and his wife Maureen.  We must not forget Jacko’s “meals and drinks on wheels,” Annie.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, at 1:00pm at St. Mary’s Cemetery, St. Mary’s Street, Avoca with Fr. Paul McDonnell officiating. Please wear some green to celebrate Uncle Jacko’s life.

Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
