John J. Schuh, 79, of Avoca, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 14, 2024. He was born in Riverside, California on February 8, 1945, and was raised in Scranton by his parents, the late John and Virginia (Brust) Schuh.
John was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, class of 1964. He was a loving father and grandfather, a musician, an amateur photographer, a model train enthusiast, and a brilliant handyman. In recent years, there was nothing he enjoyed more than spending time with his granddaughter, Ellie; watching her grow and play.
In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Elaine Jones Schuh, who died August 30th, 2019 and his sisters, Suzanne Schuh and Mary Feeney.
John is survived by his son John C. Schuh, his wife, Kellyann Daley, and granddaughter, Ellie of Pittston; stepdaughters, Lynda Alpha, of Clarks-Summitt, Laurie Whipple and her husband Wayne, of Avoca, and Mara Matteucci and her husband Carl, of CT. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, his brother, Raymond Schuh of Avoca, his sisters, Virginia Reap of Coopersburg, Patricia Valvano of Scranton, and Kathy Schuh of Scranton, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for John will be held on Saturday morning, December 28, at 11:00am at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Fr. Joseph Elston of St. John The Evangelist Parish Church, Pittston officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Friday evening, December 27, from 5pm-8pm.
