John L. Christie

John L. Christie, 82, of Pittston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at Geisinger CMC Hospital, Scranton. Born in Pittston on February 27, 1940, John was the son of the late John and Loretta (McCrone) Christie.

John lived in Pittston as a young man and was a graduate of St. John’s High School. He attended and graduated from King’s College in 1965 with a B.S. in English, and then in 1967 he graduated from Bradley University, Peoria, IL. John was appointed instructor of English at Indiana State University. He was promoted to assistant Professor of English in 1977 and then in 1992 was promoted to associate professor of English at the University of Indiana.


John had many accomplishments including sabbaticals at Glasgow University, Scotland, authorship of Indiana Public Television, many awards for English, and conducted formal lectures of the President John F. Kennedy s assassination. He also wrote many articles on Ocean Liners and Classic Cars. John moved back to Pittston after he retired from teaching.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his younger brother James Christie.


He is survived by his sister Carol Lee and her husband Thomas, his sister Mary Lou Dommermuth and husband Robin, nieces and nephews; Tracy and Bob Dommermuth, Christie and Thomas Lee, and several great nieces and nephews; Lauren and Sarah Kauatter, Hanna, Jacob, and Abby Earley.


At the family’s request there will be no services.


Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
