Joseph H. Long, 74, of Duryea, passed away on Thursday, March 20th, 2025, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Scranton, July 29, 1950, and was the son of the late James and Lillian (Giehl) Long.

Joe was a member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Pittston. He attended Scranton Schools. Joe spent most of his life in the trucking industry.
Joe had a lifelong passion for old cars and was fortunate to own several throughout his life. His favorites were a 1951, 1955, and 1956 Ford Fairlane Victoria — he was a true Ford man.
Family was everything to him. He cherished 52 years of marriage to his wife, JoAnn (Williams) Long, and adored his daughter, Michele, who was the apple of his eye. But nothing brought him more love and pride than his two granddaughters, Madeline, a student at the University of Pittsburgh, and Lily, a student at Holy Redeemer. To them, he was Papa — and they loved him just as much as he loved them. He also had a special bond with his little buddy, Charlie the Yorkie, who brought him comfort during all his illnesses.
In addition to his wife, daughter, and granddaughters, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Doris Goula, who was like a second mother to him, and her two sons, Joseph and Richard, whom he loved like his own. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, his cousin Joseph Long of Old Forge, who always kept him company and lifted his spirits, and his sister, Diane Giehl of Scranton. He was blessed with many good friends, including Jeff Best, Lynn Davis, James Barret Sr. and Jr., Norm Silvinski, Dave Barton, and the Marsh family — they were true friends.
Joe’s family wishes to thank Dr. Martin Moran Sr. and his staff for all they have done for him over the decades, he kept Joe going. A big thank you to the doctors and staff at the ER at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital who fought so hard to save his life.
Joe had many friends and it’s impossible to name them all but be assured he loved every one of them.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Center, 2010 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA 18509.
