Mary Catherine “Kay” George

On May 20th, 2021, Mary Catherine “Kay” George, 80, slipped away peacefully to God and to once again hold her beloved children, Michael and Janice.

Kay graduated from Avoca High School, Class of ‘59, received her cosmetology certification from Empire Beauty School, and worked several years at Brook’s and Schott Optical. But her dearest and most meaningful job was being a wife and raising three children, eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She loved to snuggle and sing to those babies, dive right in to playing with those toddlers, watching all the tricks every kid could come up, and it didn’t end there. She made every holiday extra special, all our accomplishments significant, and all of our lives incredibly Fun! She was vivacious and full of life. She was experienced, knew so much more than she ever made obvious, and gently lead us all in the right direction whenever we sought her advice. She was kind to everyone she met, both human and animal, while always greeting you with a smile. She continually kept us happy and well fed. She loved her shopping trips and lunch dates with her family, sisters, and best friends. She was the Sun of our family, that we all orbited around. She was our Best Friend and we loved our Kay/Mom/Gram/Gigi “a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck!”

Mary Catherine was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Josephine Sroka, her son Michael D. George, Jr., and her daughter, Janice M. George. She leaves behind her soulmate and dear husband, Michael D. George, Sr., her daughter Christine Scatena, her sisters Frances Wrobleski and Barbara Ruda and husband Leo, her grandchildren Michael D. George, III, his wife Colleen and their children Michael, Tiara, and Brandon, Jonathan George, Jessica Baiera-Reynolds, her husband Andrew and their children Evie and Max, Lou Scatena, his partner Katie and children Bobby and Bella, Alyssa Scatena and her partner Jamison, John Baiera III and his wife Becky, Eric Scatena, Elizabeth Baiera, and a large extended family whom she adored.

Funeral services will be privately held with a mass of Christian burial at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. And Interment services held at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Duryea.

Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
