Nellie (Karp) Aldrich

Nellie (Karp) Aldrich, 92, of Avoca, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. She was born in Avoca, January 28, 1929, and was the daughter of the late Edward and Helen (Sanderson) Karp.

Nellie attended Moosic schools. She worked many years in the local garment industry and retired from the Avoca Convenience Food Market after years of employment. She was a very talented seamstress and held many awards in the art of quilting. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, George F. Aldrich who died March 27, 2016.


Nellie is survived by her sons; James Powell and his wife Kathleen, of Avoca, George Aldrich III, and his wife Jeanne, of Avoca and her daughter Ellen Aldrich, Avoca. Also surviving are her sisters; Charlotte Sanderson, and Sally Powell, both of Glendale, Nancy Miles, of Scranton and her brother Edward Karp and his wife Louise, of Glendale; seven grandchildren Francine Reyes and her husband Ray, James Powell, Jr., Matthew Powell and his wife Shannon, Joshua Batch and his fiancé Katie, Julia Aldrich, Lauren Aldrich, and William Aldrich; seven great-grandchildren Jordyn and Kailyn MacCollum-Reyes, Domenica Powell and

Sophia and Chloe Powell; and many nieces and nephews.


Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.


Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.

So sorry to learn of Nellie’s passing. Nellie was one of my mom’s cousins.

My sympathies to you all on the loss of Nellie.
