Phyllis (Guzik) Hapersberger, 80, of Avoca, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Avoca, March 5, 1945, the daughter of the late Stanley and Julia (Maszerowski) Guzik.

Phyllis was a member of Queen of The Apostles, Parish Church, Avoca. She graduated from Avoca High School in 1962. Following graduation, she worked for many years at Laura Fashions in Avoca. Later in life, she pursued her education at the McCann School of Business, where she earned her associate degree in business. Phyllis retired in 2018 from the Pittston Area School District.
When she wasn’t sitting on the porch enjoying a glass of beer on a warm summer night with her family, she loved spending time shopping or going out to lunch with her daughter and granddaughters. She especially enjoyed her almost daily rides, often spent by the lake with her husband or simply exploring. She deeply cherished her husband and family more than anything and will be dearly missed by anyone that was lucky enough to know her. She was the most special wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother we could ask for.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Shirley Hapersberger, Dorothy Rutkowski, Mary McCloskey, Stanley “Sonny” Guzik, and John Guzik.
Phyllis is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Jack Hapersberger, and their children: John “Jack” Hapersberger and his wife Lori, of Dupont; Michael Hapersberger and his companion Lisa Derobertis, of Suscon; and Lori Adams and her husband Joseph of Suscon. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Michael Adams and his wife Jennifer; Selena Dolan and her husband Brandon; Zachary Hapersberger and his wife Brianna; and Hannah Hapersberger; her great-grandchildren Olivia Adams, Rylee Dolan, Mason Adams, and Remi Dolan. Phyllis is further survived by her sisters, Theresa Zabielski and her husband Charles, of Hohokus, NJ., Judy Insogna and her husband Albert, of Avoca, and Eileen Martin and her husband George of Avoca, her sisters-in-law, Sally Guzik and Cathy Guzik, along with numerous nieces, and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 10:00am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating.
Friends may call for visitation on Monday evening, April 21, 2025, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
