Stephen Vermac, 66, of Springbrook Twp. passed away surrounded by his loving family on August 5, 2024, at Allied Services Hospice Center. He was born in Avoca March 14, 1958 and was the son of the late Casmier and Mary Lou (Jopling) Vermac.
Stephen was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. He was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, class of 1975. Stephen was a very hard worker having worked many years for the Scranton Wire Company and then retired after 20 years of employment from the Craft Oil Company, Avoca.
Stephen loved his family, especially his grandchildren and his pets. He was a humble man that would extend his kindness and help to anyone in need of a helping hand. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law Paul “Crue” Vermac, Sr. and his wife Darlene, his nephew Charles Vermac, Jr., father-in-law and mother-in-law Ralph and Jean Carey, sister-in-law Patty Breymeier and his nephew Ralph Breymeier.
Stephen is survived by his wife of 29 years, Geri (Carey) Vermac, his children, Stephen Vermac, Jr., of Old Forge, Tara Lavelle and her husband Timothy, of Moosic, David Romanko, of Dunmore, Rick Romanko and his wife Ashley of Springbrook Twp., and Daniel Romanko, of Springbrook Twp. Also surviving are his 12 grandchildren, his siblings, Thomas Vermac of Dushore, Diane Van Luvender and her husband Chris, of Avoca, Cathy Martin and her husband Robert, of Avoca, Debbie Gratalo and husband Robert of Dupont, and Charles Vermac and his wife Mary Jane, of Avoca as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Stephen will be held on Friday, August 9th at 6pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Fr. Phillip Sladicka of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Avoca officiating. Friends may call for visitation of Friday afternoon from 4pm until time of service.
