William Thomas Searles, formerly of Duryea, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones, on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at the age of 80. Bill was born on April 20, 1944, to the late Veronica and Henry Searles. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Jean Searles; daughter Laura Hahn; granddaughter Alissa Searles and brothers Thomas, Robert, Henry, and Fred.
He was a devoted father to five children: William Searles, wife Lisa, Massachusetts; Nancy Pitts, fiancé Walter Volch, West Wyoming; James Searles, Exeter; and Jennifer Kijek, husband Matthew, Avoca. He was also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his two sisters Verna and Maryann.
Bill was a faithful member of Full Gospel Chapel in Avoca and lived his life as a committed Christian, embodying the values of love, kindness, and community. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding him through the many challenges and blessings he experienced.
He dedicated many years of his life to working at the Sisters of Mercy Center in Dallas until his retirement. Bill was a jack of all trades, known for his ability to fix anything with duct tape and WD-40.
In his younger years, he loved spending time in nature, often hiking, fishing, hunting, and camping. His adventurous spirit led him on many cruises with his wife Jean and family, and he cherished trips to destinations like Niagara Falls and Ireland.
A true coffee enthusiast, he was fond of his Dunkin' coffee, always savoring it with his trademark phrase, “Mmm, that’s good coffee.” Bill was a great man whose legacy of love, faith, and dedication will be cherished by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the nurses and aides of Birchwood Rehabilitation in Nanticoke.
A visitation will be held at Kiesinger Funeral Services, 255 McAlpine St., Duryea on Saturday July 27, 2024, from 10am – 12pm, with a small service to follow. Interment will be held at the Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Wyoming.
